Opportunity Classes are designed for students who demonstrate high academic potential and thrive in a challenging, enriched learning environment. At Casula Public School, our OC provides explicit teaching, extended learning opportunities, and pathways tailored to high potential and gifted learners, ensuring that every student is stretched and supported to achieve their personal best.

Children suited to the program often demonstrate some of the following traits:

• Strong ability for learning, including handling abstract ideas and applying higher-order thinking skills
• Independent learning skills, creativity, and originality
• Strong curiosity, energy, and wide-ranging interests
• Long attention spans and strong focus
• Excellent vocabulary and communication skills

At Casula Public School, the Opportunity Class is built on the belief that student wellbeing, group work and collaboration are central to success. Starting at a new school can be challenging, so we ensure every child feels supported, valued and connected.

Students in the Opportunity Class take part in a range of personal development and team-building experiences designed to:

How to apply for entry into our opportunity class

Unlike NSW public schools, there are no intake areas for opportunity classes. Enrolment is by application only. You can apply to up to 4 schools.

Steps:

1. Visit Selective high school and opportunity class placement
2. Register to start your application.
3. Verify your email address
4. Log in
5. Complete all sections of the application form
6. Submit the application form
7. Student sits the placement test
8. Family is advised of the outcome.

You must submit a separate application form for each school and list the schools in the same order of preference.

Late applications

The application period cannot be extended. Make sure you submit your application before the closing date. For more information, check key dates.

School contributions

In NSW public schools, all financial contributions are voluntary. Every student has full access to the curriculum, regardless of whether contributions are made.
